Apple Pay

Apple Pay is a supported digital wallet option within the Praxis Cashier, enabling secure, tokenized card payments and reducing the PCI DSS compliance burden for merchants.

1. Overview

Apple Pay is a fast, convenient, and secure digital wallet solution that transforms how you pay. Once you add your credit or debit cards, you can transact online, in apps, or in stores using NFC tap-to-pay.

Key features include:

  • Enhanced Security - Your sensitive data is protected via tokenization, replacing your real card number with a unique, encrypted virtual number for every purchase.
  • Speed & Convenience - Checkout is streamlined by eliminating the need for manual card entry, with every payment instantly authorized using device authentication (fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN).
  • Superior Fraud Protection - The service leverages advanced security infrastructure to minimize fraud risk.

2. Enabling Apple Pay for Your Cashier

Praxis supports the Apple Pay digital wallet method within Cashier API implementations. When enabled, your customers will see an Apple Pay button as a fast and secure alternative for providing credit card details during the checkout process.

Praxis handles the secure tokenization, decryption, and processing of Apple Pay transactions, significantly reducing your PCI DSS compliance burden.

To enable Apple Pay for your Praxis Cashier, follow these steps:

A. Apple Pay Configuration

As a merchant, you aren't required to set up an Apple Developer account or configure your own keys and certificates, as these are provided by Praxis on your behalf.

B. Contact Your Praxis CSM

Send the request for activation of the Apple Pay option for Card transactions, including the following information:

  • Your company details (name, domain, etc.).
  • Confirmation of Apple Pay Terms & Conditions acceptance.
  • The applications for which you wish to enable Apple Pay.
  • The gateways for which you intend to process Apple Pay transactions.
    • Make sure Apple Pay is supported by the selected payment processor and enabled at your account level.

3. Apple Pay Button Availability

Once Apple Pay is configured by your CSM, the Apple Pay button will automatically be displayed within your Praxis Cashier, for the Card payment method, under the following conditions:

ConditionDescription
Device CompatibilityThe end-user is accessing the Cashier from a device (e.g., iPhone, compatible desktop browser like Safari) that supports Apple Pay. Apple Pay also supports third-party browsers, allowing customers to initiate Apple Pay from any computer and securely complete payment on their iPhone by scanning a QR code.
Gateway EnabledThe payment gateways in the current Cashier session support the Apple Pay payment option.

4. Supported Authentication & Card Networks

ℹ️

Apple Pay web authentication relies on the user confirming payment intent and then using their device's built-in authentication methods, which include biometrics (Face ID or Touch ID), the device's passcode or password, or, in some cases, a double-click on an Apple Watch to activate the card for payment. The transaction is then authorized by the Secure Element and processed using a unique, dynamic security code and Device Account Number, rather than the user's actual card number.

Apple Pay integration supports the following card networks:

  • Amex
  • Discover
  • JCB
  • Mastercard
  • Visa
  • Electron
  • Maestro
  • Mir
